Vipp Pencil Case

Experiential shop hotels are all the rage. Vipp Hotel—a hospitality outgrowth of the Danish furniture and lighting brand Vipp—has been creating standalone destination rooms where you can road test their products and buy them online. The fifth and latest is this 1,000-square-foot studio within a Bauhaus-inspired circa 1930s renovated pencil factory in Islands Brygge, across the canal from the city center. $1,045/two nights, subsequent shopping optional; Sturlasgade 12G, vipp.com

Adam Bray

Before he was an award-winning designer, Bray was an antiques dealer with the most catholic of tastes. He’s drawn to the singular and quirky, as well as to an international breadth of furniture and handicrafts. Bray’s newish shop in Camden “endeavour[s] to be open on Fridays and Saturdays between 11 and 3,” says the website. You might have more consistent luck with his online offerings, which aren’t always at the shop, but are always intriguing. 3a Murray St., adambray.info

Coup D’Etat

You know your tastes are elevated when you shop where famous designers shop. That would be this gallery, which is the brainchild of Darin Geise, who established its San Francisco counterpart in 2004. The space holds a mix of pieces with contemporary lines, rare unique finds, and artisan-made goods, all adventurously, creatively thrown into the design blender for an impeccable, unique, curated look. 100 N. Robertson Blvd., coupdetatsf.com

The Gilded Owl

Multidisciplinary designer Andy Goldsborough and art advisor Elizabeth Moore opened this gallery in Hudson, New York, in 2014 as an outgrowth of Goldsborough’s popular blog. After experimenting with a West Coast pop-up, Goldsborough brought his “cool, downtown, East Village sensibility” to the City of Angels. The emphasis is on mid-century Italian works. 7282 Beverly Blvd., thegildedowl.com

Kalon Studios

Throughout the rooms of this three-level, multiuse space in Atwater Village you can see what it’s like to live with Kalon pieces, which are mixed with art and objects by local artisans. 3559½ W. Casitas Ave., kalonstudios.com

Pierce & Ward

If you’ve seen and liked the interior design work of Louisa Pierce and Emily Ward, you’re going to love their first retail venture in Los Feliz.
