“The glory days of the Côte d’Azur were the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s,” explains designer Emil Humbert. “When you design places in Southern France, you cannot forget this era.” No place exemplifies this more than Monaco, where celebrities like Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Roger Vadim, Dalí, and Picasso flocked to enjoy the high life. This family apartment just 330 feet from the Circuit de Monaco recalls that glamorous heyday, but translates it into “something very contemporary, with a positive energy.” Vintage pieces—by Pierre Jeanneret, Jean Prouvé, and Marco Zanuso—share rooms with contemporary furniture such as Antonio Citterio’s sofa for Flexform, a dining table and chairs by Dimore Studio, and bespoke furniture by Humbert and his business partner Christophe Poyet. The results are as fitting for the fortysomething residents and their two children as they would be for modern-day Monaco denizens like billionaire heiress Tatiana Casiraghi and U2’s Bono.
